Here at our Beach House, we are all about taking inspiration from other places to help cultivate our offering. Thais Rodriguez, our Chef de Cuisine, recently visited Barcelona to discover Spain’s culinary delights. Her travels influenced the enticing dishes that are offered at El Mercat – Nit de Tapes, our specialty Tapas Night taking place on Thursdays at Anchor & Den.
Upon arriving in Barcelona she was immediately enchanted by this trendy and vibrant city full of beautiful architecture and captivating history. And the food. Don’t get her started on the food. Thais explained: “As soon as you step out into the bustling streets, you are engulfed in the aromas of the city and you can’t help but find yourself salivating; as every spot, on every street, there is a place to eat.” Before her trip, she researched and put together a list of restaurants that she wanted to check out. When she visited these places, she noticed a common thread – tradition.
She elaborated: “In every tapas bar and restaurant I found the love letters of food that have been written from years ago: pan con tomate, pulpo a la gallega, boquerones, empanada, tortilla espanola, patatas bravas and croquettas, among many other things! So when creating the tapas menu for El Mercat – Nit de Tapes, I wanted to showcase the authenticity that Spain is so well-known for and I wanted to stick to as close as traditional tapas as I possibly could. Granted, the innovative side of me will pop a few surprises to the original dishes, but always having that base of home in all of the dishes I create.”
