The Healing Scent of Aromatherapy

Interview with Beverly Edgington, Holistic Practitioner

Beverly Edgington is passionate about people’s wellbeing. As an established Holistic Practitioner on the island, she is a strong believer in the theory of holism and works to inspire people to achieve optimum health by offering a range of individually focused natural therapies, restorative experiences and wellness toolkits. She has many strings to her bow, including being a qualified Reflexologist and professional Aromatherapist. Here we speak to Beverly about aromatherapy and the exciting activity that she has planned for our next signature Dark Night event, taking place on Friday, 1 July.

Aromatherapy is the practice of using the natural oils extracted from flowers, bark, stems, leaves, roots or other parts of a plant to enhance psychological and physical wellbeing. There is a wide range of oils available, each with its own healing properties. Aromatherapy is used for a variety of applications, including relaxation, pain relief, mood enhancement and increased cognitive function.

For Dark Night, we are looking forward to welcoming Beverly to our Beach House, where she will be sharing her passion for aromatherapy by creating personal blends for people. She explained: “I am going to bring around 40 oils – some well-known and others not so much. I will work on a one-on-one basis and we will make a unique blend with up to three different oils. Each oil has different physical and emotional therapeutic properties. The oils we will choose will be based on what the person is trying to achieve and feel at that moment. It is like a personal prescription for what you need today here and now.”

Beverly will also be helping people set their intentions with aromatherapy oils. During the personalized session, she will ask the person to take a few minutes to set their intention while they smell the oils they have chosen. The specific aroma from these oils will then help cement the intention in the person’s mind and whenever they smell the blend, it will trigger the memory of their intention. She will also be giving away small bags of salt, which are blended with the person’s particular oils so that they can take it home with them.

She concluded: “Smell reminiscence is very strong. You can use aromas to help recreate the same feelings and emotional results. I hope that the smell from the personalized blends will help remind people of the intentions they set on the night.”

Along with Beverly’s aromatherapy sessions, Dale Avery will also be there guiding people in making their Vision Boards and Stephanie Arch will be sharing her beautiful tumbled stones. Join us for a night of intention setting, holistic bites, celestial-themed cocktails and much more.

Dark Night, taking place on Friday, 1 July at Anchor & Den from sunset.
