This year, we have welcomed 2017 with open arms. We know that life can be crazy at times, but we are dedicating the time and energy to look within. 2017 has been our year of Awakening. As part of this year’s Beach House theme, Awakening 2017: A Year With Intention, we have been seeking out different sources of inspiration to help us find our inner calm. One of the ways that we are doing this is poring over books from our Holistic Library, found at our signature Dark Night events taking place on the Friday closest to the New Moon.
We believe that reading is dreaming with your eyes open, so we chose some thought-provoking titles to stir our soul and imagination. Every month we are discussing a book that has captured our hearts. For November, we read Paulo Coelho’s bestselling book, The Alchemist. Its main theme about discovering your destiny was one that resonated with millions. Translated into more than 70 languages, the story of Santiago, the shepherd boy on a quest to realise his “Personal Legend” has inspired people all over the world to live their dreams.
Here we share some of our favourite passages and what it means to us on our journey to self-discovery.
“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
At our Beach House, we trust in the power of self-belief. When we truly want something to happen and we are open to it, the universe provides. Our daily ritual is channeling our thoughts in a positive way and manifesting the things that we want in our lives.
“When we love, we always strive to become better than we are. When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.”
This quote really resonated with us. Love is one of the strongest forces in this universe. When we do things with love, our intentions are pure and we are driven beyond our own self-interests. This not only makes us better, but it also influences everything around us.
“If what one finds is made of pure matter, it will never spoil. And one can always come back. If what you had found was only a moment of light, like the explosion of a star, you would find nothing on your return.”
Follow your truth – what is “true” will always endure. Truth cannot be veiled by smoke and mirrors; it will always stand strong. When you’re searching for the “right” decision, it will be the one that withstands the tests of time and the weight of scrutiny.
“When each day is the same as the next, it’s because people fail to recognize the good things that happen in their lives every day that the sun rises.”
Gratitude is the practice of finding the good in each day. Daily life can easily become boring, mundane and monotonous – but that can change depending on how you choose to perceive it. If you are open and receptive, you will always find the silver lining.
“Because I don’t live in either my past or my future. I’m interested only in the present. If you can concentrate always on the present, you’ll be a happy man.”
Embrace the present. There’s no point dwelling in the past and letting it define you, or getting worried and anxious about the future. Living in the present moment means your world is full of possibilities – how you engage with the present moment will guide your life.
